Bucket-list Experiences in Tokyo:

Kiyomizu-dera Temple

Walk across the busiest intersection in the world, Shibuya Scramble Crossing

Shibuya Scramble is famous for being one of the busiest pedestrian crossings in the world. Located in the Shibuya district of Tokyo, Japan, the intersection in front of Shibuya Station sees a massive influx of pedestrians during each traffic signal change. The synchronized movement of people in all directions creates a mesmerizing and iconic spectacle, making Shibuya Crossing a symbol of Tokyo's energetic and dynamic urban life. You can check out the crossing from above from the Shibuya Sky Deck or over a coffee at the L'Occitane Café. The crossing is featured in numerous films, such as Fast and Furious, contributing to its global recognition and popularity.

Fushimi Inari Shrine

Go to the top of Tokyo Skytree

Tokyo Skytree stands as an iconic symbol of Tokyo's skyline that towers over the city at a height of 634 meters, and blends architectural brilliance, breathtaking scenery, and cutting-edge technology. Its architecture seamlessly blends futuristic design with traditional Japanese elements, featuring a lattice structure inspired by historic pagodas.

The tower's significance extends beyond its visual impact, serving a crucial role as a broadcasting tower for one of the world's most technologically advanced metropolises. The allure of Tokyo Skytree lies not only in its technological feats but also in the unparalleled views it offers from its observation decks. The Tembo Deck and Tembo Galleria provide visitors with sweeping vistas of Tokyo, showcasing its dynamic urban landscape, architectural marvels, and even glimpses of natural wonders like Mount Fuji.

Experience nightlife in Golden Gai

Golden Gai is a small and historic area in the Shinjuku ward known for its atmospheric nightlife and unique architectural charm. It is the perfect place to experience am authentic Japanese drinking experience. Golden Gai consists of narrow alleys lined with tiny, tightly packed bars, each typically seating only a handful of people. The area emerged in the post-World War II era and has preserved a nostalgic ambiance.

Ninenzaka Lane

Despite its small size, Golden Gai is home to over 200 bars, many of which are themed and decorated with eclectic memorabilia. The collection of so many different, often quirky, bars in a small area creates a diverse and vibrant nightlife experience. Each bar has its own distinct style and atmosphere, often featuring its own speciality drink and snack or small plate. As we explored the different bars, the locals were friendly and welcomed us with open arms.

Take a day trip to Hakone for Japanese Onsen and Mount Fuji

Hakone is a popular onsen destination and resort area located just outside of Tokyo. It is famous for its numerous hot springs, where you can enjoy traditional Japanese bathing experiences with a scenic atmosphere. I recommend visiting Tenzan Onsen where you can enjoy both indoor and outdoor baths of varying temperatures and mineral compositions. You can also find breathtaking views of Mount Fuji, especially from Lake Ashi where you can sight Mount Fuji against the backdrop of the lake and surrounding landscapes. I recommend going to Hakone-Onshi Park for a direct view of Mount Fuji across the lake.

Nishiki Market

Tokyo is a dream destination for sushi enthusiasts seeking an extraordinary dining experience. The city has many Michelin-starred sushi restaurants that consistently earn top ratings in the Michelin Guide. This is due to the city's commitment to culinary excellence, proximity to premium seafood markets for high quality ingredient, and the exceptionally skilled sushi chefs in the city. I recommend Nishiazabu Sushi Shin.

Get creative at teamLab Borderless

teamLab Borderless is an immersive digital art museum that offers a unique and interactive experience where art installations seamlessly blend with one another, creating a borderless world of digital creativity. It features a variety of visually stunning and dynamic exhibits that utilize cutting-edge technology such as lights, projections, and sensors to respond to your movements and presence. The concept of "borderless" in teamLab Borderless refers to the absence of physical and conceptual boundaries between artworks, allowing you to explore and interact with the art in an unrestricted manner. The exhibits often incorporate nature-inspired themes, vibrant colors, and a sense of movement, creating a dreamlike and otherworldly atmosphere.

Enjoy the view of Tokyo Tower at a rooftop bar

The Jade Room Garden Terrace at the Tokyo Edition is an unforgettable venue to enjoy a premium cocktail with the best view of the Tokyo Tower. The serene terrace has lush greenery and a garden that changes seasonally. The outdoor tables overlook the city skyline, offering a perfect view of the Tokyo Tower. I recommend trying the Tokyo Earl Grey Fizz cocktail, which combines gin, chardonnay, and earl grey tea. The terrace is open air with no roof so is best enjoyed on a day with nice weather. On a sunny day, it is the perfect place to enjoy the warm weather and escape from city life.

Tokyo Edition

In the event the weather in Tokyo is too chilly or rainy to enjoy the sights of the Tokyo Tower from the outdoor terrace, the Tokyo Edition also offers is a classy indoor bar with floor to ceiling windows and the same exceptional view.

Experience Disney magic with Japanese culture at Tokyo Disneyland

Tokyo Disneyland is special for its blend of Disney magic and Japanese culture, with exceptional customer service.  It opened its doors in 1983 as the first Disney park outside the United States. The park covers an area of about 115 acres and is divided into seven themed lands: World Bazaar, Adventureland, Westernland, Critter Country, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, and Toontown. One of the highlights of Tokyo Disneyland is its seasonal events and celebrations. You can experience special decorations, parades, shows, and themed merchandise throughout the year, reflecting Japanese traditions and culture.

The park is also praised for its exceptional customer service, cleanliness, and efficiency. Cast members are friendly and dedicated to ensure you have a magical experience. Adjacent to Tokyo Disneyland is Tokyo DisneySea, another Disney theme park known for its unique nautical-themed attractions and immersive environments. Together, Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea form the Tokyo Disney Resort.

Explore the tiny bars of Nonbei Yokocho

Nonbei Yokocho, also known as "Drunkard's Alley," is a quaint and historic lane in Shibuya lined with tiny bars called izakayas. The bars have an intimate and cozy atmosphere where you can unwind with friends and strangers alike over drinks and traditional Japanese snacks. It offers a contrast to the modernity of nearby Shibuya and provides a glimpse into Tokyo's historical and social past. The alley began to take shape during the reconstruction period following World War II when many small, informal drinking establishments and eateries sprang up in the city to cater to people looking for affordable places to socialize.
